Krell watches the beast retreating, satisfied that it had been dealt with in such a short time. Before he continue to move towards his target, he takes care of the wounds on his hands, so that no other beast would follow his trail.

Breaking through the trees you can see that actually the smoke was coming from a small imperial outpost. In front of you, the steel doors of it's outer wall lie in ruins, twisted and charred. Whatever happened here was a fierce fight. All around the perimeter you can see the signs of a huge firefight - las burns when imperial pattern lasguns have discharged, and here and there the ominous signs of blood, no older than three days.
+Krell, I know this looks bad, but I think you should check inside, see what we can find. If there are any survivors be wary, they may or may not be sane. We don't know what happened here yet, but I can guarantee that it must have been unsettling in the least +

Krell nods in response to the "Owners" mental orders, and starts walking towards the entrance. Keeping a sharp eye out for any kind of detail that would be important, or any sign of danger.

You enter the lobby and immediately realise that this is a recent outpost, and definately built and maintained by the imperium. Rockcrete walls, and silvered steel supports have all been stamped by the mechanicus, and although you don't know what the runes mean, you know that they must be some assembly numbers for the pre-fabricated HQ.
Entering a small room to the right, there is a stench of rotting that hits your nose. A guardsman is sat in a chair, with his brains vacated all over the walls and ceiling. Seeing the laspistol on the floor, you assume that he must have shot himself.

There had been a fight. Possible a fierce one. Something with the power to rip a solid steel door from the wall. A weapon? There are plenty of beasts big enough to do it too.. No bodies littered the ground, but on a world like this, they would not have lasted long before getting eaten.
But was it the beasts that ate the bodies, or the attackers that ate the defenders? If they would have been eaten, the equipment would have been left. Clothes, armor and weapons are a bit to hard to digest.
Apparently there was at least one survivor from the battle. If he was alone, and weak, suicide would be an easy way out..
In the end, Krell concludes that he needs more information before he can puzzle together what happened here. Maybe there was some kind of surveillance? He starts to methodically search the body for signs of other damage, then move on to search the room for clues, or other things that could be of importance.
When Krell is done with the room, he moves on to explore the rest of the HQ.

>day 55, Corporal Vladdicks log, Centurion outpost [datestamp 018//38586//M41]
message reads:
'since the mechanicus demanded an imperial troop presence here, we have been stationed in this emperor-damned forest, with nothing but flies and the heat to keep us company. Why I have to command this lot, I wont know, but I have tried to keep the men busy, with keeping the jungle back from the walls, and sending them on almost meaningless patrols.
However, last night, a patrol failed to return. This caught my attention straight away, normally the men arrive on the dot - nobody wants to spend the night in the jungle with the creatures out there. At first light I sent a recon party, who found nothing of the team, save for a scarce few tracks and then nothing. It was "as if they vanished, swallowed by the jungle without a trace". Then the next day one of the men started screaming, saying that the creatures were watching, always watching! I had him confined to the infirmary, but then some of the other men started acting odd as well, and this time attacked some of the civvies around the base. I had the rounded up and shot but then...
Emperor alone knows what was attacking us, but it was fast.... faster than anything I have ever faced. If you are hearing this, get out! it is no longer safe here. I have sent the remaining men north to the mechanicus research facility, and I will await any reinforcements, or the enemy if the emperor wills it.
Recording ends<
You mull that over as you search the rest of the HQ, managing to find some flak armour, a laspistol, and a clip of ammo. You also find a jungle knife, and rations to last several days

When he is satisfied that there are no dangers, he retrieves the Holo Projector, and tries to contact his 'Owner'.

You manage to patch through to the inquisitor, but the line is patchy and weak - possibly interference from some of the local flora
"Krel--- Repo--?" the holo projector squarks, the image coming in and out of focus

"Please hold 'Inquisitor'. I will try to amplify the connection."
Krell deactivates the projector, and turns to walk towards the HQ. There should be a communications room, some sort of antenna, or maybe a Vox Caster that he could use to amplify the signal from the projector. If he would fail to find any of those, he still had the option of climbing the building...

Krell ignores the fall, and blames it on combat fatigue. He makes a mental note to take some time later to examine his body, and take some rest.
When in the room, he works quickly to try and hook up the holo projector to the equipment in the room. Even though he lacks any training in tech-use, or knowledge about the so called "Machine Spirit", he trust that he can solve the problem with his logical abilities.
Once set up, he once again tries to contact his 'Owner'.

I also have to regretfully inform you that some off the equipment granted by you have been destroyed during my travels to the first point of interest. I will take whatever consequences and/or punishment you deem worthy on my return.
That is all I have to report so far, my Inquisitor."
