I tend to ask people who love warhammer, why do you like it? what drove you into the warhammer universe and liked it over some others such as starcraft, halo etc. if that is indeed the case.

I saw the tanks in the display case at the local GW. It was an Imperial Fists Landraider. Fell in love with the design and eventually got the starter kit.

My cousin told me about Dawn of War for PC. I got a look at a few videos and bought the Gold edition. I became pretty engrossed in the mythos of it, and the back story. Then I was reading books, then I bought miniatures.

Dawn of War was really good, and I remember having a pretty big liking for the Imperial Guard (who are my second favorite race). Of course, today, I think DoW is an imbalanced and broken game, but that's what mods are for. But it wasn't the games, but just the setting. Everything is so serious and dark, and it gets to a point that it's almost funny. Space Marines going on about honoring the chapter and the Emperor, meanwhile Orks are firing giant junk missiles at them that have Grots piloting them.

I would really like to play a game that isn't so much about the war of it, though. I bought the Dark Heresy rulebook and just couldn't stop reading it, it goes so in-depth as to what everything in the Warhammer 40k universe looks like (of course, most of it is depressing and grimdark). I wish I had my friends from New York again... We loved playing Dark Heresy.
Look at this fucking scrub, he doesn't even have a Warhammer avatar!

My father introduced me to Warhammer when I was about 7 or 8 years old playing the original Rogue Trader version of the table top, because being a gamer himself gaming mentality always found its way into all my childhood games. When I played with GI Joes as a kid my Joes had rules, and stat points and the like. I got a few pieces, learned the rules of the game and just kind of stuck with it ever since. I enjoy the strategy involved, and learned to like the painting when I was around 14 or say, HATED it before then though, always wanted somebody else to paint my stuff. It's why even though I don't get to play anymore, I still enjoy looking at things from other sources and coming up with fair and balanced rules to put them into the tabletop game. Also the fact that I'm writing shows a love for the Warhammer Universe beyond that once the Black Library started putting things together. It is incredibly in depth and well thought out.

My little descent into madness is thanks to a book I came across. Dark Apostle, when I was finished with it I looked up everything I could to fully know the backstory and universe of 40k. I think the reason why I love it so is maybe the brutality, or huge clashes, or more likely just the whole thing and everything in it that shaped it to be what it is today.

My brother-in-law played TT and had the figures, codex's, and DoW. The lore in the Codex's, pictures, and DoW sucked me in. I then found out about the HH books, and was hooked. I now own, 60+ books on SM's. Only 2 Traitor books which I have only opened one, fucking hate the traitors.

Fulgrims fall was the worst for me, I loved his legion his and the Fists the most.

Most disliked Primarch, tie Lorgar and Cruze. Lorgar because well hes Lorgar, and Cruze because hes a whiny emo bitch.

Whats not to love? I started with the Warhammer RPG book, started buying White Dwarf and then started seeing all this 40K stuff. Bought the Epic boxset and the lore behind it all just sucked me in, the whole Horus Heresy, the Rhinos and variants, those awesome Land Raiders, the holy warriors clad in armour blasting the crap out of everything... how can you not like this stuff?

If I had time, I'd start reading all the books.

For me, it all started with an under-rated game called Fire Warrior. The visual style of the 40k universe really grabbed my attention, and I started reading all of the 40k fiction I could get my hands on.

There really is something special about the 40k universe. The clash of technology and sorcery, cultures so advanced yet so backwards.

That, and who doesn't get a nerd boner at the phrase "In the grim darkness of the far future, there is only war".

I got into 40K thanks to the DS....

Yes I know how sad that is. I got an R4 card for my 10th birthday and one of the hundreds of games I got (through perfectly legal methods *COUGH-bull-COUGH) was Warhammer 40,000 Squad Command. I got addicted to it. My mother demanded I get a hobby that involved socialising and one day I came across Games-Workshop, I was welcomed in, gone through the begginers walkthrough and blam, like any child who likes violent video games I got hooked.
