Raven Guard - Crucias' Army Rebuild

Introduction

As some of you know I had to sell all my Warhammer except Shrike and his Honor Guard (which were munted in an Earthquake anyway - Honor Guard).

Well I am now rebuilding them from scratch, new models, new tools, new paints and new brushes. I intend to upload each squad as it's done and post them here.

I haven't painted a model in over 4 years, and I have never used washes or the foundations. So this will be a truly new experience for me.

Paint Scheme

As with before, I will be painting them "Fluffy" and therefore following the chart below (the first Spoiler). I will also be using the Forgeworld transfer sheet, but not until sometime after XMas (as it's fucking expensive - same price as a Devastator Squad!)

Future Expansion

Well I have Shrike, so I need to get to 1500 points to use him.

  • Sniper Scouts (because they are o so fun with rending!)
  • Assault Marines (kinda obvious)
  • Devastators (meltabombs work, but it's not a cheap tactic)
  • Landspeeders (especially the troop transport ones)
  • Rhinos
  • Razorbacks
  • Vanguard Veterens

You're trying to go as Fluffy as possible? Would you then consider forgoing the Devestators in favor of tanks as your heavy support? They would be more mobile and seem to me more in the vein of the Raven Guard stealth and quick action. I could be wrong, just a suggestion. Also tanks would suck up some of those points for you real fast.

Another possible option, as much as everyone loves terminators (I know I have 75 of them). Might you want to replace them with the Vanguard Veterans instead of just adding them to the mix?

Just thoughts. I like your scheme though, very nice, they turned out well, and the Raven Guard don't get much love. Nice to see them fielded.

The Raven Guard don't really use tanks much. I was thinking Devs to fill out the Heavy Support and give all squads that can fit into them Razorbacks. The combination of Razorbacks, Devs and Landspeeders should deal nicely.

Eventually I'll stop fielding the terminators, but they came in the box and can be useful. I'm eventually heading towards a fast and mobile army with all squads (w/o jumpacks) having a transport

Could you eliminate the Heavy Support choice and turn it into something else by stealing Ravenwing rules from the Dark Angels?

Could you eliminate the Heavy Support choice and turn it into something else by stealing Ravenwing rules from the Dark Angels?


Updated the original post with Dreadnought picture.

There are actually rules for RG armies and all it says is that I must not have more Heavy Support than I do Fast Attack. However I'm thinking my transports can be my powerful weapons, also give all Assault Squads melta bombs.

That sounds pretty solid, plus don't forget you have heavy weapons in your tactical squads. And apart from playing an Imp Guard person you shouldn't need mega amounts of heavy weapons.

In new codex Tacs can only have Heavy and Special weapons if they number 10 marines. The max for a Razorback is 6 models.

Yeah could do and probably will. Razorbacks just have nice weapons on them. I could use the Speeders but they detract from the Assault Marine squads.

[UPDATE] Commander added.

You can't see the Sword color, but I have decided to mix equal parts Mordian Blue and Boltgun Metal for power weapons. Gives a metallic grey with blue sheen. I altered the dreadnought power claw to have the same color. When I show the Terminators you'll see it on the lightening claws, it looks mint.

The commander caused me much anguish. There is a finite length of time you can leave a color on the brush before it stains the hairs and I left the red on too long. The result was my white pads turned pink! Took much swearing and hot soapy water to fix the brush and pads!

Also discovered white on Tallarn Flesh (a foundation paint) requires far less layers.

Didn't expect you to register mate, so appreciate it. Blood Red and Skull White are REAL pricks to paint on. I have found if I paint on top of Tallarn Flesh it works better, any tips of your own Naust?
