Thessa turned her gaze but didn't pull away. "I...." She paused, not sure how to say what was on her mind. "I can't stand looking at this body...I know it isn't me....you came for me...I thought the wedding was the only thing you remembered....I didn't know if you loved me....or the woman from your past."

he turns her to look at him.

 

"YOu wont be in this body long....Your body has been remade at home....Its waiting for us love."

 

he whispers, looking deep into your eyes.

 

"Just tough it out a bit longer."

"I..." she sighed deeply. "Call it intuition...I just have a feeling its not going to work out that way. I'm getting a bad feeling...from all of this." She looked at the door again, then hugged Horus tightly. "I could disappear you know. They wouldn't find me out there. It's like a second home, navigating that wasteland."

you know i couldnt come back without you......."he lays his head in her hair tiredly.

 

"If i come back with no proof of the mission...I wont get a second chance...Im already marked as penitent....I cant afford too much more of this."

"Penitent..." Thessa understood the implications of the word but didn't know the consequences of being so. She completely understood that Horus did not have a choice but to bring her home.

"Fine, take me back, but I would find something to keep me near you. I know I care about you but I am a survivalist...give me a chance and I'll slip away and not even you will be able to find me." She kissed his neck and stood up.

he hits the button and the doors release.

 

"Are you ready to go?"

She moved to put the ring back into her inside pocket. "There is nothing that I know that I need here unless you have a better weapon sitting around...considering my foolish act of losing the blade I was using." Thessa looked at Horus. "How are you so sure I won't?"

horus hands you a vibroblade, smiling as he opens the door without a word.

 

"anubis...Phone in to command, we are moving.

 

The warrior nods as he patches into command and odin motiions for you to come close.

 

"youre with me hun....Weve got grounmd to cover."

Thessa took a good look around, her mind shifting the landscape slightly as a memory surfaced. "I've been here....a long time ago. This is where I trained my first horse." The land melded back to how it looked now. How had she learned to see the changes in all the small details, because she noticed every one of them. "Looks so different now."

 

She tied the blade to her belt and looked at Odin. "This body is limber. Steady pace or full out?"

Odin smirks, cracking his spine.

 

"Were gonna move at a full pace....Keep up or be left behind...YOu ready?"

"Ha, I used to race my horse, Odin. Never won but that may be because she had four legs, and I'm no fancy solider like you, but you're on." Thessa smirked and readied herself to run.

Odin was gone before you could blink.

He moved like a thief through the town into the woods , leaving only a plume of dust behind.

" that's a fancy soldier with enchanted muscles love ."

Horus laughed, shouldering his rifle as Anubis shook his head.

Thessa rubbed her temples lightly, letting out an annoyed sigh. "Fucking cheater....I swear I don't know how I got assigned to your group. Lets put the completely normal tracker with a bunch of super human soldiers." She stretched her legs, making sure she popped the knee she had busted up yesterday.

 

"I'm not racing you two either." She pointed back at Horus and Anubis, then took off at a brisk pace. Her memory let her see the cute little filly she had once owned, running playfully beside her, neighing in excitement. The horse aged to a yearling, her body strong and muscular. "Gypsy was such a good horse."

you move briskly, behind you Horus and Anubis move at a steady pace, but you quickly find yourself starin g at odins back.

 

"YOu and i have to talk thess....Its about horus."

She lengthened her stride, practically ghosting Odin. "Do we really now? What about Horus do we need to talk about?" Thessa kept her voice quiet, projecting it forward rather than out, so less of her voice traveled back to the others.

horus leads anubis off the path to see something as odin stops.

 

"We have to be careful around him......If he fionds out horus has all of his memories hell turn the commander in for dissection....Give him no clue."

Thessa scowls at Odin. "I have no idea what you're taking about, Odin. Horus told me he has no memories, I currently don't have many of mine. What Horus and I discussed this morning was personal, nothing more, and the only reason he paired me up with you is because he knows I can't slip away from you." Her look lightened a little and she turned, looking at the wasteland around them. This was familiar to her. She glanced sidelong at Odin. "Don't treat me as a fool, Odin. Talking never had been my strong suit."

Odin stops and whirls around, grabbing your shoulders.

 

"Listen to me and stop talking thess."

 

He looks around to make sure you were alone.

 

"how does a man without memories use a mutagen that takes years of mastery to use. Its not Something horus can jjust rmember, one slip he goes nuclear and we all would Die in the fallout. Open your damn eyes and listen for one damn mionute. He knows about Wild card, becasue he and i talked when we were  doing recon. He told me everything ...EVERYTHING."

 

 

He looks around and produces what looks like a jokers mask.

 

 

"he and ive been hunting them since you were taken.....This is bigger than you think....I need you to trust me on this.."

Thessa pushes Odin's hand off her shoulders. "Relax, my brother, I simply had to be sure. I barely trust myself right now, let alone other people. I am listening, I always listen. If we have been working together as long as you say, you should know that I don't jeopardize orders without a reason. We need to keep moving, Horus can't distract Anubis forever." She leaned down and picked up a handful of dirt, quickly sifting through the particles and taking a whiff.

 

"If we stay here much longer well be caught in a crossing of undead. We wouldn't want that now, would we?"

odin reaches into his bag and pulls out waht looks like a uniform.
