Hey, have you read the cain novels? I had an idea for your dex.

The cain novels are written as if cain himself was writing his memoirs and the memoirs were 'Confiscated' by inquistor vail because what it contained. She made sidenotes to help explained certain parts to readers (other inquistors) and puts down comments. All of which are usually funny.

I was thinking you right the dex as if one of the characters were writting it with other characters remarks and expereinces of the species. Which can be done with mod editing the post and using different colors on font.
