First off, I am actually rather glad to see a group therapy thread as it were pop up here (half serious/half tongue in cheek, no one take offense)
I find that sometimes sharing from your personal experience helps qualify the advice being given, provided all points are relevant and it doesn't degenerate into a rabbit trail of "WTF?"
As some of you know, I fight depression myself, so I highly recommend seeing a Doctor. Yes, it is not an immediate fix, but it's the first step to the right track. For me, trying to fight through it by myself wasn't doable...so swallowing my pride and admitting I needed help was the first step, which I applaud jk for doing.
The most important thing for me in fighting off depression is having a strong support group of people...people I can trust, people who care about my well being. Talking to a psychiatrist is always helpful dealing with and finding the root of the problem, provided of course you find one that works for you. If one doesn't work for you, try another...remember, it's about making yourself a better person.
Also, one book that really helped me get through things and level out was a book called "The Depression Workbook" by Mary Ellen Copeland. I highly recommend it as it was vastly helpful. At very least look it up
On an admittedly personal note, I am thankful for all the people on Gothic Wars...they have provided that distraction mentioned many times in this thread that has kept me from doing anything stupid. Particularly about a month ago when I was going through a very dark time, y'all unknowingly provided that support through the varied amusing threads, discussions on fluff, etc. You may never know how much of an impact you have being a member of this site, but trust me, you DO have one
The point of that was that this community cares for its own. We're behind you jkharvey (and anyone else fighting something)...it's just what we do
