"youre too tired."

 

moira whisper, stopping behind the done.

 

"Go to bed..I dont need help to do this."

 

She forms a patch of iron that covers a length of broke wire fencing.

 

"Drink some of the tea in my bag...youll sleep dreamlessly."

Sorianna had heard those words before so she didn't totally trust the powers this tea possibly possessed. "I'm alright. No worse off than the rest of you. I know none of you have been sleeping either." She tried again to stretch out her mind.

You touch something... Old.

It barely registers as whatever blood that is in it has been sitting for decades.

" I'm used to extended bouts of being up girl..."

Moira says calmly, reaching into her pouch and pulling out what looks like some berries .

" you're young ... You need sleep."

Sorianna turns away from Moira, focusing on what she had sensed, trying to pinpoint it. "Somethings here....something old."

the target is in the woods, not too far from the camp.

 

It thrums with life, but it is tainted....Wrong......SLightly mad

She rubbed the feathers of her face, where they came together between her eyes. "They're always insane, why are they always insane?" A better question was if it was hostile. It hadn't confronted them so far but that by no means meant they were safe, plus she had no idea what 'it' even was. "We aren't alone." She told Moira. "In the woods, that way, just a ways from the camp...its not moving right now."

moira closes her eyes as if smelling the air.

 

"its not moving becasue it cant...:

 

She motions for you to follow and leads you into the dark woods.

 

It takes seconds for your eyes to adjust but soon you see the hulking frame of an ancient zealot. It slays slumped into a massive tree that has grown into the behemoths shattered frame.

 

"Poor thing mustve been here for years.."

 

Morra whispers as there is the telltale whisp  of gears moving as the zealot reacts to your proximity

"Lord....how is it even still running? If this one is older than Ashram shouldn't it have needed much more maintenance?" She looked at Moira for confirmation, technology still not being her strong suit. Sorianna reached out to put her hand on the root growing into the body of the zealot. Nature reclaimed everything, given time.

As her hand touches the metal she finds that it is dead, cold, it is not the presence that she had been sensing.

 

Suddenly you become aware of another precense.

 

Behind the zealots destroyed frame in a small clearing stands a figure. His body is covered in frayed, tattered clothes . His face is obscured by a badgers mask.

 

He turns to face you and lets out a low breath, as if willing himself down from combat.

 

His body tenses and shakes, as if unable to restrain an incredible surge of bloodlust.

 

"Sorianna...."

 

THe figure whispers though teeth that could snip veins, and moira takes a step back.

 

"WHat in the fuck ....Is that."

 

Your mind tenses and you are forced back by a killers instinc, insatiable and endless, like a deep well of deep red blood.

 

"He is...Inhuman/."

Sorianna staggered back, almost overwhelmed by the bloodlust. Something deep in her mind stirred against the feeling. She looked at the person who was clearly fighting some form of insanity, and though the mask was stretched some, it triggered an old memory.

She was young, playing with her clutchmates, the village was expecting a visitor. His arrival was heard and felt before he was seen but it didn't take long for the large badger varghen to enter the village.

"Who...?" Sorianna was still struggling to focus around the man's emotions. She tasted blood and that had never happened before. Without even realizing it she had formed her scythe and gripped it hard, part of her itching to bury it in his skull. "How do you know me?"

The mans hand trembles visibly as he reaches up and slowly begins to pull the mask away.

Instantly , the bloodlust vanishes. As if it had never existed. The boys face is calm, the lines of his face inhumanly at ease. In his piercing green eyes you see no intelligence, as if he was simply a repository for those emotions she had felt.

He puts the mask into his pouch and slowly places another onto his head.

It was almost comical, a silly smiling face with electic eyes and a electric smile.

" hello sorianna... I am Rasmussen ..... Student of your Hadrian tectonic. I have been sent to protect you."

Sorianna found herself able to breathe with the vanishing of the oppressive feelings but something still stirred deep in her mind and her hands shook with how hard she was holding her weapon. "Tectonic..."

She flashed back again. Her father and Caldeus greeted their guest. He caught her curious gaze and flashed her a huge smile.

Suddenly her mind settled and the blood in her hands seemed to have roiled with her problem. She dropped her scythe like a hot coal and it splattered the ground in a messy puddle. Stepping away from it she looked at her self pronouced guardian.

"I...I don't understand." She looked over at Moira. "I barely knew Tectonic, how do I know you're not here to hurt me?"

The boys face registers a clearly puzzled face.

" because I'm smiling duh!"

He chuckles and folds his arms.

" smash was supposed to protect you but fuck knows where he is."

On top of being exhausted and terrified of what had just happened with the blood, Sorianna added baffled to her list of emotions. She looked imploringly at Moira for help. "I don't understand. What are you talking about?"

he is tectonics student..."

 

She says very slowly.

 

"THis...BOy..Is no longer human...Are you Rasmus.."

 

The face on the boys mask frowns.

 

"No Not anymore....Im not allowed to be.."

 

He grabs the mask of the badger and sighs. "WHen master was killed...I didnt fare too wello on..No the master lives on in me..."

 

He smiles as you see several other masks.

 

"WHat would you like to know sori."

Sorianna felt her adrenaline fading and the exhaustion was hitting her hard. She felt a little better seeing Moira calm down but she was feeling a little overwhelmed. With a heavy thump she let herself fall to the ground to sit. "I don't know....I..." She had questions, obviously, but she couldn't voice them. This was yet another thing that had been kept from her and she didn't know how to feel about it.

he smiels and crouches in front of her.

 

"How about you go get some rest back at camp."

 

Moria suggest, placing a gentle hand on your shoulder as rasmus only considers her.

 

"SHould we bring this....Thing?"

She looked at Moira. "He is not a thing, he's still a person...well...sort of." Her gaze went back to the young man. "I don't feel comfortable making the decision on him. He may have studied with Tectonic but I don't know if its safe to bring him with."

Overhead, you hear a rustling of wings, and predator lands on soriannas head.

 

"RAsmus!"

 

he screeches happily, bobbing up and down on her head.

 

"ITs been a long time how are...."

 

He stops immediateluy as if tasting a sour taste.

 

"You are a shattered glass arent you boy."

 

Rasmuses smile fades.

 

"yes sir.....Things got realy bad."

Sorianna lifted her father from her head and transferred him to a low branch on the nearby tree. She stared at him, a small amount of hurt in her eyes. "You owe me an explanation." Even her voice couldn't hide how tired she was. She stood, brushed herself off and walked back to camp to find a place to sleep.
