I can't remember exactly which was my first anime, but it's either FMA, Inuyasha, or Big O. I was really young at the time, so I could only watch em on Friday nights, on adult swim, when I visited my grandma.

My first Anime was Van Hellsing. I really stuck to it, and it opened up the world of anime to me.
After that, I found FLCL (Fooly Cooly, or something like that..), and I cant say, to this day, after have watched it three separate times, that I understand anything of that series... >.<

After that, I explored the awesome world of anime without remorse. :D
But now days, I'm more for manga.

Now you're asking :s here in Britan, many moons ago, channel 4 used to do Anime weekends. When I was 11 they showed Eden (I think that was what it was called) its about earth after a big war, everyone lives in a mega city, terrorists trying to take over, police dudes on mottor bikes that turn into suits of armour, terrorists have better ones, teenager finds a really old one that's proper bad ass... typical anime :)

Same weekend I saw Riding Bean, Cowboy Beebop and Genocyber. If you havent watched any of these I highly recommend them. Cowboy Beebop the movie is good but not as good as the series, watch the series first.
Loyalist, traitor, I care not; you all look the same on the end of my sword.

Why did they ever stop showing anime on British TV? It's probably because of the terrible dubs but it ain't that bad to stop showing it.

Your right it was stopped because of Terrible dubs but also it was because the British did not have the magic Voice of Steve Bloom

Akira is a must. Just like Evangelion.

For anyone starting out, I recommend those two, along with Cowboy Bebop and good ole' Kenshin - or Substitute Kenshin with Samurai X. Those can get the ball rolling pretty well.
