Well actually with DoW its a rare and confusing case, yes its an expansion, but you dont require the original to play it so its a stand alone title, but I do see your point. My point being is the epic fail that came from Soulstorm that took so many years to fix that it had the effect of prodfing a carcas with a stick.
Sorry for the hate in this post but they really did mess up Soulstorm.

In reading that I don't see any huge 'failures.' I've never run into the Sisters resource exploit nor people running around deleting other players buildings and such. The only other 'complaint' I read in there was about it taking a fair amount of time to beat the game. Oh no! You can't win in 10hrs, what a travesty! If this is really the reason Soulstorm is so ripped on I am a little disappointed.
