Okay, gave up on battlelog and went and just played it for it. I'm not seeing the lure at present. I feel as though all I do is run forever and die to do it all over again.

Hahaha, yeah it's like that for a little while. In retrospect I'd advise you beat the campaign on Normal and then do the Co-Op missions. Once that's done you should enter MP with a better skill level. I did the reverse and got poorly treated to say the least haha.

After about 3 days of it I am very competent in the few roles I play. When you go MP pick one class and stick with it until you're getting a positive K/D rating. For example my accuracy has risen to 31% with the sniper and my K/D is now 1.05, considering how much of an improvement that is I am happy!

The game is very unforgiving to new people, but highly rewarding to experienced players.

PS: avoid Helicopters and Planes until you learn them.....

The part I'm hating is the equipment. There is no selection of any kind. No gear to customize the weapon with. I can't stand iron sights so I've been sticking to sniping, and the starter Russian rifle is absolute crap in bag.

Yes I also advise you to not get in those death traps until you master them, if you try to fly one for the first time you will die

Yeah there is customization, hit "My Soldier" on the main menu and then "Customize"

Pick a class and you'll get a menu allowing you to pick

  • Primary Weapon
  • Secondary Weapon
  • Primary Gadget
  • Secondary Gadget
  • Specialization

Now highlight Primary Weapon and press the "A" button and you will get another screen allowing you to customize

  • Scope
  • Attachment
  • Ammo or Secondary Attachement

For my SKS I use the Balistic 12x Scope, Foregrip (as the bipod restricts movement) and a Supressor.

You can also customize the crap outta the vehicles you drive in the same menu. Then there is your Camo pattern and Dogtags

You have to obtain these things first though do you not? That's what I'm talking about that at level 1 I have crap, and I'm stuck with crap until I've died my way to new stuff.

You are correct on that front I'm afraid, the Physical Warfare pack in the Special Edition gave you free toys. You might be able to buy it with MSPs. Almost every serious game (war simulator) does this now I'm afraid.

Note that some of the starter stuff is actually quite good and it takes very little time to reach the first few unlocks. You can unlock vehicle upgrades by riding shotgun and using pintle-mount weapons as well.

Not a real fan of the vehicles. The tank seems okay, but not really enamoured of them.

Yeah, in this game they can be disabled, which means slow movement and gradual decrease in HP. Essentially it means a prolonged death you cannot avoid unless you have the repair tool handy. Also with the sheer amount of anti-vehicle weaponary available they can be deathtraps. However the amount of punishment the MBT's can dish out usually offsets that.

In the end you have to stick it out with the class you like until you get stuff you feel happy using. It's much more fun if you do the initial part of MP in a squad with friends, tactical manouvering can offset the gear disadvantage. While the starting weapons are actually extremely good, without the Supressor (which reduces noise and flash but also accuracy) and such you do feel a bit naked.

I often see people playing without any upgrades on their weapons because you pay a price for every upgrade in the name of balance.

And I want the flashlights they have in this game. I don't know of any flashlight that can blind me in broad daylight from 20 feet away.

Yeah and on the night levels the laser scope does the same thing. I find generally spam firing in the direction of the light usually works wonders

I also love how you can roadkill people with the MAV and use it to kamikaze helicopters.
