Actually, technically there could be depending on the environments of planets. The salamanders are black due the radiation from our sun.

read my post again i said "varying forms of environments" as well as, "each suited for as well as shaped by their specific environment". Im pretty sure that covers it. And technically it only turns the space marines skin black due to the fact that there enhanced genetic makeup absorbes the radiation, the regular human population are just tan. what i was saying is that they may look similar to our modern definition of african or asian, but on a genetic level they probably would not be that close.

The human race was divided and partially destroyed as those who would not give up their idolism of their gods to unite were 'purged' Mankind ad already spread out by then and so had evolved and adapted to their planets enviroments.

Oh yea missed that last part, and also the white scars bear a lightning bolt on their heraldry. The Mongolians were afraid of lightning and thunder, but ghengis khan used this as an advantage when he fought other tribes, it is said that on one of his battles it started to thunder both forces began to hunker down and get scared, but ghengis khan rallied his army and destroyed his reeling enemy, so there's a little history in the white scar heraldry. They need a Horus heresy book on the white scars I couldn't afford that overly priced version.

Yes especially the mournvil, which numbered four and in Egyptian mythology, Horus had 4 sons. Many of this is linked to either roman, greek, asian or egyptian history. For example in latin ferrus manus means 'iron hand'

It doesn't just apply to legions though. Everything in 40K has some real world influence somewhere.

Even if it is just "Tomb Kings in Spaaaaaaaaaaaaace" :dodgy:

Hmm well lets see as we seemto be having a discusion about 40k lore why dont we try to find traces of chivallry, honor and well to put this as easy as possible why dont we try to find the chapter or legion who are as gentleman as possible with a healthy competetive attitude shortly lets make it into a little competition :)

I want you to tell me who will compete so i can keep track on who is attending this glorious event :)

You will get one point for each specifik thing this chapter or legion dose, you will have 10 specifik things to look for and you will have to get evidence that these acts of gentlemanship has been done so i can make this competition as fair as possible, you will have until the 24/12 2012 to post your contribution to this most exclusive little holiday game and i shall decide on a winner the 25/12 2012.

1. Chivallry
2. Honor (and by that i mean things like they would never harm a woman or something like that)
3. Style (as in stylish clothing or in this case power armor)
4. Politeness
5. Empathy
6. Responability (that they stand for what they do and take reaponability for their actions)
7. A refined vocabualry ( well i think you all know that the profanitys are out of the question)
8. Good sportsmanship (if they take happyness and gloat at others failure it is bad thing)
9. Modesty
10. Mercy

The one who finds the most acts of gentlemanship will win the eternal glory and honor and a simple congrats from me and hopefully the rest of my fellow gentlemen i bid the brave gents who will contribute a good luck.

Humbly yours "Count Viktor Holmgren (CryZice) "

I could hardly pick the DA, as in the fluff they're not exactly gentlemen.

In matters of Honour well that would be the grey knights as they have never broke a vow. Many of the chapters have many of these skills, all space marines are thoughtful with the possible exeption of the space wolves and the whit scars. Every one of them has a certain trait be it their collectivness or their rational thinking they are all gentlemen but in my book the Grey knights and the Ultramarines are true gentlemen. you want to see the grey knights deeds here.

Spoiler

For the Ultramarine deeds here you go

Hmm well the grey knights are the purest, loyalisyt. have the most undying faith. Never break a vow. can forgive past events (EG: when Logan Grimnar killed one of our grandmasters) but we reach an unerstanding.

I will not be contributing considering my time is finite, and also authrix took the only chapter, such as mine worth mentioning.
No offense to any other chapter I am just biased.
