Kill forgotten and level up, make sure your defence is strong, try get it to "15" asap. You can "attack" allies and have a look at how we built out bases, attack my baby base and observe how I use base structures to make it hard to get to my MCV and Def-Fac.
Also note how I layer my defences in front of the MCV and Def-Fac. It makes them pay heavily for attacking me, the only buildings which matter are MCV and Def-Fac, loose 1st and you "die" (and have to respawn, plus you loose your resources), loose the 2nd and defences wont auto-repair between attack waves.
Make them pay for each metre of your base.
Once that's done, focus on Army. Throughout the whole thing you'll need to level Power, Tiberium and Crystal in that order. Power is used for everything after all!
