So, I seriously do not think that Titus in the SM campaign is a legit Ultramarine.

i think Titus does well for himself concidering that he is a smurf. free thinker and great leader. pluss he cares for his men. except that punk tratiours bitch who will not soil this thread...

I really would love to know where all of this Ultramarine animosity stems from. Because so far there is no legitimate origin for any of the negativity. They are the poster child. And? Blood Angels were for awhile, but they aren't hated. Matt Ward did stuff to them. That's table top, and has no bearing on the Legion as a whole. So why all the anti-Ultramarine attitude?

I think it was how the ultramarines were made in fluff. How how anyone chapter and or marine that deviates from the codex should be looked down and and be berated for not following the codex. Or how they are basiclly the patriarch of every new chapter, and all the other legions are made to look like their lineage is dying out while ultramarines are always strong no matter what.

But that's all supported through the fluff. It's because the Ultramarines ended up missing out on a large part of the Heresy since they were sent to the outer reaches before Horus turned and then bogged down by the Word Bearers, not to mention them having the largest Legion prior to those events.

As for the Codex aspect, that's their idealogy. That would be like saying "man any Word Bearer that doesn't worship chaos is looked down on." What tools. No... that's just how they operate. Every Chapter has its 'code of conduct' theirs is the Codex Astartes. They are the by the book guys, and it works for them.

And the dying lineage again is fully explained due to genetic instability (Space Wolves, Blood Angels, Salamanders) or just plain loss (Raven Guard, Iron Hands).

Why should they be looked down on for these facts?

Yeah they really are, i mean when you think of 40k the first chapter that generally comes to mind when people think are the Ultramarines, i mean i even had them at first but then i saw the templars, now i love the templars.

I'm with Nox on this - Their back story is good, and if anything more complete that a lot of the legions that people here aspire to. There's no real down on them, just seems to be a lot of fluff from one guy that everyone is ticked off with.

It's not so much the fluff as the fact they are vanilla and the standard. 80% of Space Marine armies are Ultrasmurfs or their successors, of that over 2/3 are Smurfs.

They have some good story, but the chapter has no soul. Not the way the Dark Angels, or Space Wolves do.
