Did a three round 850 point tourney with highlander rules last night. Only made it to two rounds be cause I had to leave early, but it was too bad because I was going undefeated. Went in with 1x tactical squad, 1x five man dev squad, 1x five man assault squad, 1x five man scout squad, a vindicator, and Vulcan He'Stan. First round was a against a eldar player, and I demolished half her army in the first turn, which meant she could only hold two objectives while I held three, and I only lost one marine in that game. Second round, I went up against some imperial fists. Victory conditions were objectives again, but one troop choice had to hold one objective with no ammo, so no shooting. I was able to gain one, and hold it before his assualt marines moved in, and then in the last turn I cleared one objective and used my tac squad to lock down that objective, while contesting another. Was some epic battles. I find it to not be strategically sound to deploy first because yes, you get to choose where you place your troops first, but the person who deploys last can deploy their forces in order to better counter enemy forces. It's like deploying with better Intel.

Gah chest high wall of text

Impressive only loosing one marine against an Eldar army, the dice gods must have favoured you. Last w40k game I played before I quit was Raven Guard vs Orks with objectives, I lost because he rolled double sixes with the Shokk Attack Gun and managed to run a Grot onto it.

He second game was night fighting. Didn't help him much though.

Indeed, dice gods shown upon me in that first game I was able to get a few lucky shots on a squad of eldar. They were wiped out in a turn, then a dead on shot with a demolisher cannon took out her entire elite choice. In one turn, her entire right flank was gone, and the rest didn't have very good lines of sight to even get very many shots off.
