[Iron K]

This Christmas I got the lovely gift of a Printer/Scanner from Catty, which means I now have something I've never had before. A way to get pictures out of the computer, but also a way to get pictures into the computer.

 

Now I'm not an artist unlike many other on this site (like Palin for example), I'm more of a self-taught sketcher. It's something I picked up during my schooldays, and the only way I could survive the boredom.. I can't say I'm any good myself, I leave that to others to judge.

(Yes, this is one of those unbelievable times when I'm humble. Enjoy it..   )

So, here is something I've been sketching the last couple of days to keep my mind of the pain.. I've done it all by hand with a 0.7 pencil. I'm not very satisfied with it myself, but I thought I could scan it into the computer and fix it up. Problem is that I have no freaking clue of what to use on the computer. 

I know paint, but it doesn't feel like the optimal way. So, any tips on what I can do/use to kick it up a bit? Was thinking something in the line of giving it better contrast and a dab of paint., something along that line. 

 

Also, constructive criticism is always welcome!

The lines on the robes are too short and too numerous in my opinion, at first glance I though they were saggy muscles. Chains are very nice. For the eye lens I'd recommend butting a curved triangle with no fill in the area opposite the shaded area to to show it is meant to be shiny / reflective.

Software I'm afraid I can only recommend stuff that is very expensive or obtained through less than legal means :/

Well Iron Photoshop does have a 1 month trial so you could always get that and see if you like it.

 

And it is not bad Iron with some simple shading you could bring the picture out so it looks more like an actual person appose to a 2D image.

I've only ever has an IPad, so wouldn't know about any of e good ones :/

I despise apple products, using the Samsung Note 2 atm and love it, maybe a Samsung one? Or the HTC?

Hey Iron,

If you are unsatisfied with your sketch, there are a couple things I can suggest. 

A. add some shading.  Pick a direction from which the primary light source will be, and create shadows or darker areas that help make the image look more dimensional.

B. shine a light source through a glass pane, put the sketch on the pane with a  blank sheet over it.  Re-sketch your drawing, keeping the elements you like, and changing anything you would like to improve.  (I use this when I want to improve something)
