It's pretty straight forward. You just need to have sculptor ability. I'm meh with it. Do you have a set project in mind that you're trying to put together?

For a cape, generally you want to build it free form first. Get a flat piece about the size and shape of the cape you want (Nice and thin so it's not clunky, but not too thin so it won't fall to pieces), then gently carve and/or fold in in the ripples and folds. Then apply to the mini by trimming off the access to make it fit where you want it to and smooth in the top edge with their preexisting armor or clothing (May require a tiny piece in the front to act as a clasp or a brooch).

This is not 40k, or the best example of artwork, but I made these DBZ characters for the HeroClix system for my nephew almost entirely out of green stuff.

Yeah, wire frame, and lots of annoying scraping with dental picks. I stole Goku's hands from another similar model, wasn't going to try being that detailed, don't trust myself.

I'm not bad with it, am working on some fully customised playable Space Wolves at the mo. Using it for fur textures, loin clothes, skulls and gun barrel explosions. It's a nightmare at times, but when you get it right and take your time it can be wonderfully rewarding!

First, using greenstuff to make capes is no easy task. I am pretty good with it now but I struggled at first. The key is letting the greenstuff cure a little (I would say letting it sit for a good 20-30 mins before trying to add in the creases. What I do is use a dinner plate and add a little bit of water so you create a small puddle. This will keep the greenstuff from sticking to the plate. Roll it into a ball then flatten it out on the plate. You then take a putty knife and cut the desired shape from the flattened greenstuff and then set that aside on some wax paper for about 20 or 30 mins. This is so it isn't as flimsy and will not fall apart in this next step. Attach it to the model with super glue (if you can wear rubber gloves for this great! prevents finger prints when pushing it onto the model, if none, no worries) once it is on the model, you can use a few pens or other cylindrical items (I use brass rods) to then create your folds. With the model standing vertical, you stand the cylindrical item next to the cape and bend the sides around it. Use various sizes for various fold depths. I realize this is a little hard to visualize without pictures, when I have some time I will try to make a tutorial.

It is a required that you buy clay shaping tools and sculpting tools from a local craft store. Without them, you will not be going anywhere when trying to sculpt with greenstuff. Also another tip.. Sculpting requires little to no pressure in shaping. What I mean is, when you use tools to create a shape or look, you are barely touching the greenstuff with minimal pressure. Any less and you wouldn't be doing anything at all. It is that delicate and if you look up video tutorials online you will see what I mean. Hope this helps somewhat, I will try to get a tutorial on it soon!
We got tactical smart missiles, phase-plasma pulse rifles, RPGs, we got sonic electronic ball breakers! We got nukes, we got knives, sharp sticks...

I've seen so very good fur textures and hair made from green stuff but I've never tried my hand at anything other than gap filling. I would like to give it a go and do some extra things to my models though. I can't remember what it's called but there's a plastic/rubber? mold that you can press around anything and then put green stuff inside it to create your own pieces. I want to say I say it on cool mini or not. They did whole space marines piece by piece. That'd be the easiest way to go if you just want to copy something.

You need modeling knives, like very small dentistry tools, I once nade a Space Wolf fur cape extention for somone, the trick is to try and wait it to be dry enough to stay still on the model and stuffy enough for you to be able to model it, I rarely use it on my models, I mostly use liquid green stuff, the stuff is awesome for people trying out conversions.

Green stuff is difficult to work with. I find playing with it while it is on the model works(trial and error) better then anything else for me. A trick is to use water soluble gel. This allows the green stuff to stay soft and not stick to your hands tools or model when sculpting. Im not great with green stuff and only us it when I must. Here are of of my better works going from left to right. My darks angels chaplains hood and swords on his knees. My sisters of battle saints flame on sword. My dark angels librarians hood, banner holding him and his force weapon suspended and part of his right foot. Finally my Black templar terminators funky hair. Good luck with your models.
