I figure this section fits for a discussion on a Star Trek episode and I'd like to see more here too!

So as per the title I'd like to share some thoughts I've had on the episode in the title. Here is a link to the wiki for an overview if you never saw it or forgot what it's about: Link

Ok now we are on the same page I will share some thoughts my friend and I had over this episode. Back when it aired it was cool for a lot of reasons but today it has a different implication for me, It seemed silly at the time for a language to evolve that way. But think of Internet speech today. I go on reddit a lot and in many comments sections you will find gifs instead of an actually response in English.

Memes and gifs are the beginning of a language based on phrases instead of words. For example, without reading any words slowpoke.jpg will provoke the idea in your head of someone making a statement long after that statement was relevant.

For those who travel in geeky circles outside of the Internet, think to any conversation you've had where you referenced a meme rather than giving a unique description for an event. You were speaking an underdeveloped version of the alien language. Now converting over to this style of speaking may seem awkward but consider how words change and evolve over time I don't think it's too far fetched to see phrases enter the dictionary rather than just the words the make them up.

Well there is my TL : DR version of the whole conversation I had with my IRL friend. Now time for some more thoughts from you fine folks!

So what your saying is that the Talarians culture and language evolved this way because of Grumpy and Nyan Cat?! Man that blows :D

Well I was hoping for more input here and try to boost the SciFi section, oh well.

That said I feel Nyan Cat has a much bigger impact than Grumpy. Nyan can symbolize mind control over the masses through pretty colours and catchy repetitive music thus acting as a metaphor for our modern pop culture. Grumpy Cat is just an asshole.

I try shorten my posts off phones, as for the rest of them you'll need to wait for the inertia to be overcome.

I suggest posting a thread saying "Voyager is The Worst Star Trek" and you'll have an instant rage thread thanks to Joker ^^

I borrowed TOS from a friend but did not enjoy it, was just too cheesy for me. They by far have the best characters, but the show plots just bombed for me. Aside from the first one, the movies were pretty decent. Generations and The Voyage Home remain amongst my favourites
