In fact the game was not surpassed in complexity until Master of Orion 3 and Sins of A Solar Empire appeared.
The game was available on PS1 and PC. The reason it sunk was that they didn't advertise and CnC, SC and Age of Empires had already established themselves. It also could not save mid-mission, and the game quite often took upwards of 6 hours a mission - of which there were many many many.
Once they went bust, the game was open sourced and the Warzone 2100 Project was born. They revamped the game to run on Windows, Mac and Linux, added save game, new units, new graphics and more.

It's old, but one hell of a good game - and it will challenge all RTS players
