Dark stone walls surrounded her. Cold water enveloped her. Above, a small round window, open to the night sky. The shrill voices of her attackers pearced the air. A figure looked back. Her father gazing down at her. " Kaya! stay there, keep quiet. Please be strong and whatever you do. STAY HIDDEN!!" He arched up quickly out of view as Kaya continued to look up from the bottom of the well. A scream. Her father. Then as she watch he looked back to her. Leaning too far. Furry hands gripped his legs as he was pitched head first. She could do nothing but watch and wait as the limp bloodied form of her father fell down towards her and hit.....
She woke with a start. Sweat trickling down her back. She franticly looked around. She was dry, in a small room, wooden walls, a shed. As she took her bearings her memories woke slightly slower than her body did. She was surrounded by tools used for working the land. Looking out of a small window she looked out onto a port town.

Somjek stood where the River Trebleca ran into the Black Gulf. Out on the water she could see large Dwarven built steam boat taking the ores and minerals mined from up in their mountain home of Barak Varr in the west down to, well where ever they take them. She had heard tales of gemstones and gold also mined and thus traveled here to see if she could claim herself some of it.

Dusting herself off, Kaya decided to locate the nearest tavern to gather information on the destination of the steam boat and its, presumably wealthy, owners. Taking great care not to be seen as she exited the shed, she worked her way, inconspicuously, into the throng of workers and townsfolk traversing the busy street to begin her search.

Slipping into the busy streets was easy. No-one really payed her any mind. Those that did cast her a second glance didn't linger. It was just how she liked it. Busy and Thriving. As she got closer to the dockside she became confronted by a whole street of Inns and Taverns. Each hung brightly coloured signs depicting fish, boat and on more than one occasion half naked fish women. She choose one that looked somewhat respectable and entered the tavern depicted as the Silver Sturgen. Inside it was light and pleasant and only the barest odor of vomit wafted in the air. A woman in her 50's waved her in. "Hello my dear. What can I do you for?"

Kaya approached the bar, taking stock of the patrons and marking her exits instinctively.

'Good morning. I'd like some food if you don't mind, I've been travelling for some time.' she lent on the bar, smiling at the woman. 'I was also wondering if you might be able to tell me who runs the mining and shipping business around here? I might not be able to wield a pick-axe, but I'm sure I could be of some use. I just need to know who to ask if it's not too much trouble?'

"Oh my dear," she responds warmly. "You need to go over to the dwarven quarter for that sort of info. They use this town as their main shipping area. You know not so long ago we were a two fishing boat town till those stout folk came down from their mountains. Look at us now! It's made a huge difference. Roast Pork and taties?"
