I wanted to get the communitys thoughts on this certain since, as some people know, music is extremely important to me (in fact, it's one of the three things that saved my life). Firstly, as some my know, I’m a extreme metalhead at heart. Metal has given me an identity and has been something that I loved since year 6. The variety, complexity, depth and the raw emotion and quality the genre has as a whole in my opinion has always made it my genre of choice.
Despite this, on the 2K forums when I was in year 10 so I’ve fully entrenched myself in the metal genre, I was shown something that made my heart shine with a massive grin on my face of joy, that was vocaloid. For those who don't know what vocaloid is, it's a singing synthesizer which allowed songwriters to expand on their musical ideas. With this technology, the world's first virtual diva was created, Hatsune Miku. Vocaloid started to grow massively, with people around the world creating songs with Miku and other vocaloids and eventually, Miku and others were having sold out live shows everywhere and the fanbase of vocaloid hasn't stopped growing since.
In my opinion, vocaloid and Miku is the greatest musical invention of this generation. Not only has it allowed aspiring song writers to get noticed with Miku and others, but it has brought an entire new view to music. The community itself creates vocaloids, with songs being made every day for Miku and others so they are the combination of everyone's emotions and dreams throughout the world. This is an entire new concept of music itself where instead of group of people creating music, entertaining fans for expressing their ideas (or for just gaining money), the fanbase creates the proformer and in case of Miku, becoming a icon for not only themselves, but for the entire fanbase.
Miku and vocaloids are the 'perfect' proformers although it's how the human uses the vocaloid which determains the quality. Vocaloids are a vessel for people's creativity and the vocaloid can be whatever you see it as. Over time, fans (including me) have created a personal bond with their vocaloid of choice and that alone along with the concept itself shows in my opinion how special vocaloids are. I personally say that "She has the power to change the world"
