Ever since reading about the Deathwatch, I have been totally in love with the best of the best of the best.

The idea that there is an elite within the elite, who fly around the universe squashing all kinds of bugs just appeals to me on a cellular level. I was over the moon when GW have released deathwatch as a standalone faction now (although whether 40K really needed another stand alone faction of space marines is another argument entirely!)

What has stood out since though, is that most of the models that can be bought consist of the models themselves, and a deathwatch upgrade sprue... which happened to get me thinking (dangerous for both wallet and health)\;

So the upgrade frame has plenty of bolters, enough pads for a normal squad as well as some other bits and pieces there. The terminator captain that comes with one of these is just £15 (GB) and comes with one such sprue....

I feel like this is a steal as you now have a captain and the ability to mod existing space marines, or upgrade a completely new squad.

thoughts? - are the deathwatch a worthwhile investment, and will anyone here be starting their own kill team?

Assuming you are looking at the 10 Man Kill Team which is about £44, then this is what you end up with

- 14 Space Marine heads
- 10 Deathwatch left shoulder pads
- 36 Chapter specific right shoulder pads
- 10 Deathwatch Boltguns (with shot selector)
- 10 Deathwatch Power Swords
- 4 Thunder Hammers
- 2 Frag Cannon
- 4 Storm Shields
- 4 Shotguns
- 2 Infernus Heavy Bolters
- 2 Stalker-pattern Boltguns
- 2 Heavy Bolter/Heavy Flamer combi-weapons
- 4 Power Maces
- 2 Xenophase Blades

Which to me sounds like a good deal, as you are effectively doubling you squad numbers, especially as the other kill teams are about the same price, without the spare parts. Seems to be the best deal you are going to get for them. Just remember you will need the Codex too if you are going to play them

After I have invested money into Age of Sigmar, then I am actually looking into getting some Deathwatch figures to add to my Loyalist Army. Some would argue that there is to many Loyalist figures, but I would say there needs to be more (So that I can crush my opposition)

After visiting my local store yesterday, I realised just how easy it would be to keep adding 5 man kill teams to an allied detachment :o

£22 for five very specialised, very mean space marines is almost a dream! especially considering the prices of plain equivalents (sternguard etc!).

I think the time is nigh to dust off the old Inquisition codex, and run that Ordo Xenos army I have been dreaming about for years!

Holy crap that is expensive looking back on the hobby. So glad the PP policy is every possible upgrade should be included in the base blister / box.

That said, it's a shame they retired the Inquisition as an actual army. Daemonhunters and Witchhunters were really cool armies to play with and against.

I am holding out hope that we might see a revival in the coming years, of late GW seems to be actually giving fans the armies that it wants, so it will be really interesting to see if later down the line we see an inquisition resurgence.

I think there is definitely a need for non-space marine loyalist armies, even as a space marine player myself i feel like there has been way too much on the big guys

I would like to see an Imperial Crusade codex, allowing you to draw from all Imperial Codexes. I played this type of force in Apoc and it was very rewarding.

that would be a very good idea, though I think they would probably swing more for a supplement of some kind or an actual formation?

Can you not technically do the same thing with allied detachments though?
