Fill in the helmet vents with liquid greenstuff if you wish, that way you can paint or carve patterns into the greenstuff.

Little bits like the smoothing of the vents or not is truly a matter of personal preference. The fluff will not tell you to use that or not use that for your army. If you read Thousand Sons that gives you a rough idea of the level of ornate appearance the Pre-heresy Thousand Sons use. There is also one in Battle for the Abyss and Prospero Burns has some mention of them as well. All good place to get ideas.

Think about what you picture a Wizard to be and then what do you think a Wizard would do with his power armor. I see lots of wards/runes and things of that nature. It would be very little trouble to look up ancient runes and then paint them on free hand. Little things like that is what really makes your models pop. As far as helmets go why not use a bunch of helmet less heads and only a few helmeted. I would think most Wizards would go without a helmet. If I was doing this army I would try to get models that have robes on them such as These Templar Models (Click) and then replace the weapons with These Swords(Click) or These Axes(Click) also I would use These Large Shields (Click) on my Terminators and These Small Shields(Click) on my Sergeants or Command Squad. There's plenty of parts for Rhinos and Land Raiders that will make them match the Egyptian theme of the Thousand Sons.

Its basicly a white drybrush followed by a drybrush of the colour you want, bare in mind it has to be a VERY drybrushed coat.

Parchment:
•Spray coat of black
•this light brown looking foundation which name I cant remember
•layer of 60:40 mix of bleached bone and skull white
•a heavy wash of watered down Baal red wash
•a heavy wash of slightly watered down Devlun mud wash
•highlight edges and raised areas with thin coat of bleached bone (thin means that its barely covering the previous layer)
•finer highlight of 50:50 mix of skull white bleached bone
•if you wantput text in this stage but I personaly leave it blankas if the text is too small to read
•A very heavy wash of Gryphon Sypea (best paint in the world)

And if a mod is so disgusted with my lack of knowledge on how to spell these complicated names go ahead and correct it :P
