Microsoft is announcing Windows 10 today and there's a few features in there that are fucking amazing.

 

• Upgrade from Windows 7 & 8 is free
• Windows 10 has an Xbox app that functions as a game hub, where you can chat between X1 and PC but also launch games with friends
• Windows 10 can stream ANY XBOX ONE GAME from your Xbox One
  • Requires controllers though some games may have MnKB support
• Game streaming works with any controller
  • apparently including PS4 controller linked to PC
• Windows 10 PC and Xbox One games will start to have cross-play features
  • Meaning you PC and Xbox players can play together on some games
  • Fable Legends will be first
• Buying an App-Game from the Microsoft Store will unlock that game on Xbox, WP10 and Win10 devices if the developers have made it compatible with all three mediums

Basically they are trying to demolish the barrier between PC and Xbox for gamers, where choosing one system over the other doesn't mean abandoning friends or missing out on exclusives.

O and for you buggers who couldn't learn to use the Win8 start menu hated the Win8 start menu, Win10 has a modern version of the Win7 start menu available.

You can join the Insider program and download the beta of Windows 10 but it is not currently available. We're probably talking September for release. I suspect I'll upgrade to the demo long before that though

If you're talking about Win8 then you need to stop complaining and learn the system, as Win8 is laid out in such a way it's faster to use than win7 but you have to know how to use it (and therein lies the problem). If you're talking about Xbox One then I'm right there with you pitchfork and all. Damn interface on X1 is mental without voice commands 

 

@Fuzzball - Don't think this would affect that, unless you count the strategy type apps that will be cross platform

I know how to use the system. It's just bad. A regular desktop is so much better.

To me it seems completely pointless. Boils down to whether I want an XBone or not, in which case the only advantage is not buying the same game twice cross platform, which nearly never happens. Playing together keyboard + mouse vs. controllers is gonna be a clusterfuck with a complete advantage for one side, which would be PC, as they have the option to use either. And I have no interest in app games off a phone...

 

They'd have made better announcement if they shot burned and buried gfwl.

 

Not getting it for the first 8 months to see what people say, may skip it entirely like 8.
